Photo Montage: Where you are in 10 years reflection 2/16/23

My montage shows a picture of a red carpet with many icons and images around it. I think that in ten years, I would have some awards for my films or photography that I have done. I will not have any kids, and I will be working with the equipment that I know how to use. I think that I would be both a filmmaker and a photographer to get more experience with everything, but being an editor is one of my main goals.

In the future, I want to go see my favorite artists perform live and work with them to gather professional pictures of them. On the bottom left corner, I have pictures of my favorite artists Melanie Martinez, Twenty-One Pilots, and Pierce The Veil preforming. It has been a big dream of mine, after my first concert to be able to work so closely with my favorite people doing things that I love, so if I had the chance to do this, I would love to do it all the time.

Lastly, my entire montage is meant to be a collective of what I think my life will be if I stay on the same path. I do change my mind about a lot of things in my  life, so I might end up having kids, or not wanting to be a filmmaker, but for now I think I will end up in that field. I think that photography and film will always have a place in my heart, even if I don’ make it in the world.

David Hockney Critique 2/16/23

I really like David Hockney’s artwork. I like how he defines his own art style by himself and doesn’t take ordinary facts about art, and he chose to be himself. This work is one of my favorites of him because I think it captures a person well. The fact that the face is never fully made and that there are multiple pieces of his face is what makes this artwork stand out more to me. I like it shows that there can be more than one face to someone you know.

Motion Blur Tips 1/30/23

Tips learned from reading the article:

  • Where there is people there is motion so you can take these pictures anywhere
  • Taking these kinds of pictures on the street, where there is a lot of people is an easy way to do this
  • Its okay to take a while to get the pictures because it can take some time to get the motion
  • An easy and place most people have near them is a playground, which blurs the background
  • Lastly, you can take these pictures on the stars or trains to get a cool effect on your picture

Keith Haring Artwork Critique 1/20/23

In this artwork of Keith Haring, I feel like the meaning is love can only be found with others. I think Haring meant it as people need others to find love, whether that is with themselves or falling in love with another person. I think this piece is one of his best and one of my favorite pieces because I think it shows a good meaning that anyone could relate to. For the assignment, I went mostly based off of this picture to bring a similar meaning into the picture and I brought the colorful concept from his other work to bring more of the pop art look to it. Overall throughout all of Keith Haring’s work, I think he was trying to talk about love and that people shouldn’t judge anyone for anything.

Body, Shape, and Form Questions 1/20/23

I think that my work was successful. I wanted to show a part of the body for this assignment and I chose the legs. I think with the tights and shoes, the image quality was higher and has more depth to the picture and meaning. Some criteria I will list this work as to help judges would be body, legs, love, life, and dressing up nice. My photo makes me feel happy and to enjoy life by dressing up more and to always be nice and love your body. When I see her legs, shoes, and tights I also think of fashion and how it can make someone’s day when you compliment an outfit.

Ted Talk Reflection 12/2/22

In this Ted Talk, the artist Erik Johansson talks about his work, how he makes it, and how others perceive his work. His work consists of surreal events that wouldn’t happen. He made artwork that involved him grabbing and pulling the road like a blanket, broken arms like glass carrying a vase, and a construction zone playing tic tac toe with the road. His work had changed the way some people see photography and artwork as a whole. It shows that there aren’t any rules for photo and anyone can make anything that shows  their mind and creativity.

I really likes his work because it give more examples of surreal work. Surreal work has always looked so cool in my eyes and I want to be able to make work like Erik Johansson and bring the creativeness out of photography more. HIs work is probably one of my favorites after watching the video to see how and why he does his work. I also think that his work is really cool and brings more ideas to photography and editing to make normal pictures, better is a cool idea.

Lastly, I think that this video, overall, is good to show people who are interested in photography or anything surreal. From watching this video, I understand that there is more then just editing for a surrealism picture and has to have a plan before hand. The ideas that come to the mind of people who do surrealism have to be original and creative in order for their work to stand out to others and bring more people to like the same thing.

Sandy Skoglund Art Reflection 11/10/22

Sandy Skoglund’s artwork is a combination of bright colors, with contrasting figures. She makes the background a certain color, then creates ceramic figures in a color that opposes the background. In her artwork, she uses her own figures and people. The people might be doing something not paying attention to the figures, or they can interact with them. In her photo, “Radioactive cats”, her subject is looking at the cats, which is interacting with them. This can make the picture seem more realistic and real. In my opinion, Sandy Skoglund is a great artist with a lot of inspirational work. Her creativity with making her own subjects for the picture, setting up the picture, and taking the photo all by herself is a great inspiration. Her art is great in the the composition aspect and always catches my attention when I see her work.

Indeed Job Search 10/27/22

One job I would be interested in would be freelance videographer and photographer in LA. I have most of the requirements, except for being the right age to work this job. They require the worker to be able to take good photos and video of different events they attend and to be able to  edit the video and photos. I can be a good candidate for this job because I can go to most of the events and I can take good pictures, videos, along with editing them all. Another job I was interested in was being a wedding photographer in LA. I’m not qualified for this job because the main requirements is to be a wedding photographer and have experience in wedding photography for over a year. To be able to work this job, I would have to find another wedding photography business to be able to get more experience before working this job. The last job that I found interesting was being a Photography Manager in Burbank. This job needs the worker to have a BA in photography or any other similar diploma, so I don’t have the qualifications. This job also needs the worker to be able to edit photos and take them, which I am good at. So if I wanted to take this job, I would have to study photography and get a BA in that subject, or something similar, then apply afterwards.

Multiple Exposure Writing Assignment 10/5/22

Somethings that I learned form this article would be that to do a good multiple exposure picture, you should only have about 1 or 2 flashes. Having little flashes would make it easier to control and to be able to know what you are taking a picture of. Another thing I learned would be having a black background when you take a picture. Having a black background would make it easier to edit and wouldn’t be harsh on the camera to try to get any certain details in the background. You would also have to be in a very dark room to be able to do this type of photography. In the article, the author says that you have to set your camera on the lowest setting to be able to take the picture better. Putting the flash on the the lowest setting possible for that flash, would let the camera catch up with the flash while letting the aperture be lower. When you are first starting this assignment, you should take a test picture testing the exposure of the camera. Testing the exposure will let you know what to do differently to be able to get the perfect picture. This article also explains how any movement in photos can lead to more attention. Having a lot of movement and blurriness in this type of photography, caused by the movement shown when the flash goes off, will cause more attention and can make a single picture better. The best way to take a picture is to go into a place where there is little existing light. Shooting indoors will small light is the best way, but when you shoot outdoors, you might get ghost pictures. Ghost pictures are figures from the background that were shown through other natural flashes or if it moved when you turned your flash on. If you decide to shoot outside, you might end up with underexposed pictures, if not done properly. According to the article, another dilemma you might face will be the distance between your subject and you. If  you are too far away, your photos won’t come out right, but a way to fix this would be to make your aperture wider, to let more light in and to see your subject better. Lastly, one of the ending points the article wrote about was to make sure the camera never sees the flash, so the picture and still look good and the flash won’t get covered. The article also ended their writing by saying that you will need to practice and that you can see this method of doing multiple exposures in magazines.

Political Poster Writing 9-23-22

My poster is about supporting LGBTQIA+ rights. I feel this way because I have friends and family that are a part of this community, and with the new law in thought, their rights might be taken away. I think everyone should have rights and not be looked down upon based on their sexuality. The opposing side in my opinion is not supporting the rights of LGBTQIA+ people. I don’t see reasons to disapprove of the community and I think I never will see the side that they see because I truly believe that you can love whoever you love and that the government shouldn’t control that. My poster wasn’t made to offend anyone, however, I do believe that it is okay to offend people to an extent. Purposely offending someone to get the attention of others to bring up the topic more is okay, but offending someone out of hatred, disapproval for that community, or talking about traumatic topics others have gone through except you is not okay to talk about or to offend others on. Lastly, I think my poster does get the message across as much as possible. With the pride flag in the background and flags with every couple, I think the topic of supporting all couples and people in the community is the main subject of my poster. However, I think I could’ve added more people and flags to the poster to get the point of supporting all members in the community and not just couples.

Read and Write: Why you should be a photographer    9-6-22

Being a photographer seems like a fun job that provides many great benefits. Some of the benefits include photography being accessible to almost everyone with a camera or phone, being more popular, and never having to work a 9-5 job. Working in the photography industry also can be an interesting job because your schedule will change everyday and you might work 10 hours one day, then have a week off after that. This career also lets you be your own boss and explore new things everyday, like places, meeting new people and types of photography. In the future, I think that I would like to be a photographer, and even if I end up not liking it, photography also brings other jobs and careers in the possibilities. I would also love to be able to have an open schedule and be able to do different things and go to cool place every week or even every day.

Read and Write: Review 8-12-22

  1. Aperture is the hole in the lens that allows a certain amount of light to pass through, the bigger the number the smaller the hole. Shutter speed is how fast the camera will take the picture, the bigger the number the faster it takes the picture. ISO is the cameras sensitivity to light.
  2. You would change your ISO when you’re shooting sports or when you’re in a darker place.
  3. Aperture priority allows you to control your aperture while the camera fixes your other settings. Shutter priority allows you to control your shutter speed while the camera fixes your other settings.
  4. Some different AF modes are one shot AF and AI autofocus. You can change them by using the AF or MF switch on the lens.
  5. You need to meter the light to get the right exposure to avoid over exposure or under exposure in your pictures.
  6. White balance is what tells the camera what is true white. You need to change it to avoid bad lighting or a green/ purple picture.
  7. Depth of field is what is in focus behind or in front of the subject. Shallow depth of field is when the background behind your subject is blurry, but your subject is clear. Good depth of field is when everything in your picture is in focus.
  8. Drive modes are single shot, continuous low and continuous high. Single shot lets you take one picture at a time, continuous low lets you takes more then one picture at a time, but for slower models. Lastly, continuous high lets you take more than one picture at a time, but for faster moving subjects.
  9. Exposure compensation is when you fix one setting on your camera to help for the other. An example of this is to higher the ISO when your aperture is making the picture underexposed.
